Question from a coach – How can I stand out as a coach?

Question – With all the people getting into coaching, how can I stand out from the pack?

Jennifer – There are a number of ways you can stand out as a coach, but I want to point out the top two. The first thing is you've got to be a kickass coach. Like I always say - you can't suck. You've got to be a good coach.  A good coach stands out because they create sustainable, positive life shifts for their clients. Then the client goes and talks about that to their friends, family and colleagues.

The second thing that comes to mind is how many coaches try really hard to be something that they're not. In this case I'm talking about their marketing and branding. As a coach, you’re concerned with both skill building and at the same time you also work on business building. And during the business building part, many coaches find themselves trying to be something that they think their clients are looking for rather than being authentic and trusting that who they are is exactly what their clients need.

For one thing, being unauthentic is really hard to sustain. It’s very hard to be something that you really are not. I realize that it may sound counterintuitive that you shouldn't try to stand out as this dazzling, super unique coach. However, I believe we all stand out the best when we are ourselves. Because that's what makes us unique. Right? Plus, it’s so much easier to be yourself. Therefore, I suggest finding that thing that makes you you, and embrace it.

To be honest, it took me awhile to do this myself. It took me some time before I was willing to unleashed myself. I finally realized that it was okay to be my true, rough-around-the-edges self. In time, I figured out that it was okay to release my brash style and it was even safe to drop an F-bomb here or there. Because that's what I do in my life. That’s me. When I allowed myself to be who I was and allowed it to come out in the website, in my branding and in my content, it was so liberating. But not only that, it turned out to be beneficial to my business. I know that sounds counterintuitive because we're all trying to brand ourselves as something that people want. But what people really want is you. And that’s good news because there's really just one version of you. Right.

So those would be my two top recommendations; Don't suck and strive to be your authentic self. I know you’re going to love the results.
